Herbert Leroy Isaacson of Chetek passed away gently on Monday, February 6, 2017 at age 89 surrounded by family and loved ones. He is survived by Millie, his wife of 69 years; daughters Marilou, Bonnie, Alice, Kathy and Tina; grandchildren Jessica, Molly, Jack, Alexander, Nathan, Nicholas, Matthew, Jake, Jeremiah, Dustin, Christina and Kimberly; plus great-grandchildren James, Katrina, Aiden, Tegan, Isaac and Lena.

Herb was born in Chetek, WI on August 29, 1927, the son of Albin “Ob” and Pearl Johnson Isaacson.  Herb spent his childhood in Chetek with his sisters, Nina and Cecelia, who currently live in the Chetek area.  He was preceded in death by his first born daughter, Suzanne Marie.

Herb served as an Army Medic in 1946 at the age of 19. He and Millie married in 1948.  Recalled to active duty, Herb left his young family to serve again in 1950.  Upon return, Herb and Millie moved to Mundelein, Illinois with their growing family where they lived until his retirement in 1995.

Herb and Millie returned home to Chetek and have spent many years as active participants in community and educational events. Herb proudly served as Commander of The American Legion Post #179.  He was a man of many talents --including woodworking, stained glass, photography, ceramics, lapidary, and jewelry making -- an avid train enthusiast, boater, music lover, and traveler. Most of all, he loved taking care of his Millie and his girls.

Herb will be remembered for his easy smile, sincerity, kind heart, and generosity of spirit.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home with Pastor Guy Redfield officiating.  Family and friends may gather from Noon until the time of the service.  Military honors will be accorded following the service.  Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in the spring.  Please join the family for a luncheon and continued fellowship at the American Legion Post #179 in Chetek.

The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
