Welcome to the memorial page for

Mavis Adele (Newman) Dodge

March 8, 1918 ~ January 2, 2016 (age 97) 97 Years Old

“Imagine stepping on shore and finding it Heaven!  Imagine touching a hand and finding it God’s.  Imagine breathing new air and finding it celestial.  Imagine waking up in Glory and finding it home.”  Mavis Adele Dodge walked into the arms of Jesus on Jan. 2, 2016.  She was born March 8, 1918 to John and Marie (Thompson) Newman in the town of Sioux Creek.  She graduated from the Chetek High School in 1935 and graduated from the Barron Country Normal in 1937.  She also attended summer sessions at the Eau Claire Teachers College.  Mavis taught several years in the country schools in Barron County.

On June 6, 1942 Mavis married Roy Dodge at Dovre Lutheran Church.  They bought the Dodge family farm and spent the next forty years raising their three children, building and developing their farm and participating in church, school and community activities.

In 1982 they moved to Chetek and spent their retirement years in various pursuits such as traveling, camping, and spending the winter months in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

Mavis will be sadly missed by her children Tamara (Dave) Johnson, Terri (Doug) Bates and Laurence (Laurie) Dodge.  Nine grandchildren Micah (Nikki) Johnson, Amanda (Tim) Gunderson, Nathan (Cecilia) Johnson, Jenessa (Joseph) Anderson, Sarah Dodge, Taryn (Alex) Bell, Kaila (Devin) Traff, Isaac Johnson and Carolyn (Lucas) Mastin and eight great grandchildren will miss her bright smile and hugs.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Newman, husband, Roy, infant son, Robert John, infant great grandson, Xander Nolan Mastin and infant great granddaughter, Hazel Adele Traff.

A celebration of her life will be held at Chetek Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Sat. Jan. 9 with visitation an hour before.  Please view and sign the online guestbook at www.burnhamours.com.
