Laird "Larry" Toufar Obituary

Laird “Larry” Joseph Toufar, 71 of Chetek passed away May 3, 2019 at his residence with his loving wife and family by his side.  Larry was born October 6, 1947 in Chippewa Falls, WI the son of Joseph and Mildred (Peterson) Toufar.

 Larry grew up in rural Chetek and after graduating from Chetek High School in 1965 he went to Racine, WI where he was employed at Standard Gray Iron & Ductile Foundry.  He returned to Chetek in 1968 where he leased and operated Phetteplaces Twin Lakes Tavern.  Later he worked for Fred Komro at Chetek Motors as a salesman, owned and operated Lar’s Bar in New Auburn, was a bartender at Chetek Lanes and Brass Rail Bar.  He was a longtime salesman at Southworth Chevrolet in Bloomer working with his wife Kim who was a car detailer there.  Larry was forced to retire when his health was failing him.

Larry was united in marriage to the love of his life Kim Wasko.  They had a double marriage along with her sister Alice and James Waskey in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 31, 1999 during halftime of Super Bowl XXXIII.  Larry loved flowers, hanging out at their cabin in the woods, playing pool and having a “cold & delicious” a.k.a. beer, 4 wheeling, fishing, Canada trips, telling jokes and funny stories every day, and was an avid Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewers Fan.  He will be missed dearly by everyone that knew him.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Kim, daughter, Heather Lubben, 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brothers, Tom Toufar and Robert Janota of Rice Lake, Rollin (Mary) Janota of Bloomer, Arthur (Dorothy) Janota of West St. Paul, MN, Dale (Michele) Janota of Gillette, WY and sisters Jolene (Gene) Kowalski of Rockton, IL, Shirley Janota of Atlanta, GA, Sister-in-law, Beverly Janota of Sturtevant, WI along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and hundreds of friends.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar & Emma Peterson, Joseph & Cecelia Toufar, parents Joseph Toufar & Mildred Janota, Stepfather Charles Janota and one brother Elroy Janota.

The family would like to thank Hospice Care Services for their guidance and kindness.
