Dr. Orville Langhough Obituary

Dr. Orville A. Langhough, 92, of Chetek was called home Saturday, January 02, 2021 at the Mayo Health Care System in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  Orville was born on July 26, 1928 in Chetek, Wisconsin, the son of Dr. Olaf P. and Alfie (Sletten) Langhough.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Langhough, Chetek, WI; children: Martin A. Langhough, Scottsdale, AZ; Richard O. (Melanie) Langhough, Charlotte, NC; Nancy L. (Michael) Cook, Eau Claire, WI and Michele A. Langhough, Chippewa Falls, WI; his grandchildren: Dr. Jason R. Langhough, Aaron D. (Jordan) Langhough, Scott M. Langhough, and other family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Alfie, and his brother and sister-in-law Reverend Alfred and Borghild Langhough, and their daughter Aana.
Orv attended Chetek High School, excelling in basketball, football, boxing, and baseball...earning 11 letters. He moved on to St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN graduating with degrees in Biology and Physical Education. He then attended the Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA, with a break to serve at Army Chemical Center in Maryland from 1951 to 1953. After graduating from Palmer, he returned to Chetek to join his father’s practice.

He married Shirley Hickenbottom on October 29th, 1955 to begin their 65-year marriage. He was always willing to go the extra mile for his patients, giving student athletes special attention. He was an outstanding golfer, bowler, baseball player,  basketball player, storyteller, and colorful sportswriter for the Chetek Alert. Orv served his community on the City Council, School Board, and church boards. He was active on the State Chiropractic Board as well, advocating for the vocation he loved. He never walked away from a good fight. But, above all, the number one priority in his life was his Christian faith.
