Betty Pitzer Obituary

Betty Belle Williams, Gubrud, Grieshup, Pitzer went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Our House Senior Living in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  Betty was born March 1, 1923 to Benjamin E. and Nellie Mae Williams in the Township of Dovre, Barron County, Wisconsin.

She was raised on a dairy farm with two brothers, Donald and Maynard and one sister, Wanda.  She graduated from Chetek High School in 1940.  After graduation she went to Chicago to work.  She stayed for one year then returned to Chetek.  Betty was a telephone switchboard operator for 15 years, a book keeper and trained new hires.  She drove school bus and a bulk milk truck for 8 years, she also waitressed at Bob’s Grill and the Chetek Café.  She worked as a gas station attendant as well as treasurer for the Salvation Army and was a nurses aid at Knapp Haven Rest Home.

Betty was very much involved in church ministries.  She sang with the Harbor Lights on Channel 13 TV, did background scenes, she even painted the Harbor Lights sign on the bus.  She was very busy in her lifetime, working, painting and traveling.  She loved oil painting.

She married Alfred Gubrud, June 10, 1943, they had one son Dennis.  After 43 years of marriage Al passed away at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital on October 4, 1986.  Betty then met Cy Grieshop in her travels to AZ, they married on March 21, 1988 and for only a short time, Cy died of heart failure September 1, 1988.

Betty then sold her home in Chetek along with her motor home and moved to Chippewa Manor Retirement where she met Jack Pitzer who had just lost his second wife.  They became close friends and married March 20, 1990, they then purchased a motor home and traveled to AZ for the winters.  Jack passed away May 30, 1999.

Betty was very strong through her years because of her deep faith in Jesus Christ and his saving grace.  She has now graduated to glory with her lord and family.  The legacy of her life was left to her by her precious mother, Nellie Reardon Williams a woman of strong faith.

She was preceded by her parents, brothers, Donald and Maynard Williams, sister, Wonda Rand, husbands, Alfred Gubrud, Cyril Grieshop, Jack Pitzer and her son Dennis Gubrud.  She is survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
