Ronald James Fiore, age 78, of Chetek, WI—a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps—passed away on September 30, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 28, 1947, in Cook County, Illinois, Ron was the beloved son of James and Betty (Kaufman) Fiore. He grew up in Eau Claire, WI, the second of five children, and would go on to lead a life defined by love, service, and laughter.
Ron proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life he held in the highest regard. He carried the values of loyalty, dedication, and resilience throughout his life, not only as a Marine but as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jan (Paape); his children: Jason Fiore, Chad Paulson, Travis (Amanda) Fiore, Tami Johnson, Kilee Fiore, and Gracee Fiore; grandchildren: Markella, Kianna, Hayden, Jayce, Rakella, Heather (Tony), Brittnee (Jason), Jessica, and Iler; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings: Sharon (Carroll) Slaughter, Dennis Fiore, Jimmy (Dee) Fiore, Greg (Teri) Fiore, and Michael (Margaret) Fiore; brother-in-law Rick Paape; sisters-in-law Jill Paape and Cindy Paape; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Ron is also survived by his loyal canine companion and sidekick, Gizzy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty Fiore and his in-laws, Ronald and Dona Paape, as well as brother-in-law, Randy Paape and sisters-in-law, Shari Andrews and Barb Paape.
To those who loved him, he was RJ, Dad, and most dearly, Papa. In retirement, Ron found joy tinkering in his garage, sharing laughs, and taking trips to the casino with Jan. He was known for his quick wit, his passion for music (often heard singing in the garage), and the pride he took in teaching others the ins and outs of yard work and garage life. Whether cracking jokes or cruising the yard with Gizzy by his side, Ron brought joy and warmth wherever he went.
A military burial service honoring Ron’s life will be held at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 12th, at 1:00 PM at the Chetek VFW.
