Ethan Engel, age 19 from Chetek, WI, passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2025, in Stevens Point, WI.
Ethan was born on February 10, 2006, at Froedert Hospital in West Bend, WI, to Anthony and Gretchen Engel of Hartford, WI.
The family moved up to Rusk County, WI, in 2013 as Anthony accepted a Sheriff’s Deputy position for Rusk County. Ethan attended elementary and middle school while living in Ladysmith, WI. The family built a home in Chetek, WI, in 2020, and Ethan attended 4 years of school at The Chetek Weyerhaeuser High School. Ethan enjoyed his time in high school playing basketball, starring as Lurch in the Adams Family school play, and excelling in academics, which resulted in Ethan being accepted into the National Honor Society. Ethan graduated from high school in 2024 with honors.
After high school, Ethan attended UW Stevens Point and majored in Data Analytics to pursue a career in Financial Planning. He was a sophomore this year. Ethan was known for his kindness, warmth, and dedication to both academics, his community, and his faith.
Ethan enjoyed the outdoors and liked fishing, hiking, kayaking, and sitting by the campfire with family and friends. Ethan was very close to his family and active in his church community at St. Peter Catholic Church and Chi Alpha faith group at UW Stevens Point.
Ethan was such a kind, gentle soul, always wanting to help others, and loved his family and friends very much. He is deeply missed.
Ethan is survived by his parents - Anthony & Gretchen Engel of Chetek, sister - Elyse Engel of Chetek, grandparents - Kenneth & Sharon Gauger of Kewaskum, WI, uncle/aunt - Mark & Pamela McQuin of Melbourne, Australia, cousin Madeline McQuin of Vienna, Austria, cousin Riley McQuin of Melbourne, Australia, uncle/aunt - Jeffrey & Mariana Tetzlaff of West Bend, WI, and cousins Ani & Weston Tetzlaff of West Bend, WI.
Preceded in death by his grandparents - Wolfgang Engel and Catherine Engel, great grandparents & other family members.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 2, at 12:00 Noon at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cameron, Wisconsin. A visitation will be held prior, beginning at 10:30 AM and going until the time of the service. The family invites those attending to a luncheon and time of remembrance in the church's fellowship hall following the Mass.
