Welcome to the memorial page for

Rodney Torphin Dahl

February 28, 1934 ~ August 22, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Rodney Torphin Dahl was born on February 28, 1934 to Mabel (Hegna) and Edwin Dahl.  Rodney died after a short illness complicated by a blood cancer at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, Wisconsin on August 22, 2017 at the age of 83.

In his early years and following high school, Rodney dairy farmed with his father and uncle, Alfred Dahl on the family farm in Sioux Creek.  Following his marriage to Carolyn Mikula on October 13, 1962, the farm was purchased from his father in 1967 by the couple.  There they raised their two children; Julie born December 2, 1964 and David born November 29, 1967.  Rod was active in his community and involved in and member of the Sioux Creek town board, Farmer’s Cooperative of Chetek, later joined by Rice Lake and Ridgeland.

He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage, and he and Carolyn traveled to Norway twice.  Rod was also blessed to be a Christian and, besides living his faith, served many times on Sand Creek Lutheran (now New Hope) council and building committees.  The couple traveled to Israel in 1977 and three times to Mexico exploring the ancient civilization and religion of the Mexican early people.  Along with being a prudent and economical guardian of his farmland and animals, Rod enjoyed reading everything in sight and was knowledgeable on a variety of subjects including politics and his faith.  He enjoyed playing cards and watching the Packers and Badgers basketball and football.  Having been blessed with an excellent memory, you could always count on his accuracy.

Preceding Rodney in death was an infant daughter, parents, sister Lois (Dahl) Dietske, brother Arlyn, Sister-in-law, Eilene (Knutson) Dahl, brother-in-law, Raymond Parrett, nephews, Larry and Tom Dahl, grandson William Clark.  Left to mourn his passing are Rods wife of 55 years, Carolyn (Mikula) Dahl, children; Julie (Scott) Subera, David R. (DeAnn) Dahl, grandchildren; Marissa Cyrus, David E. Dahl, Denae Dahl, Andrew (Ashley) Dahl, Anna (Adam) Courtney, Jaclyn Dahl, sister; Audrey Parrett and brother; Curtis Dahl.  Surviving in-laws include Deslyn Bishop of Harrisburg, PA, Loren (Carol) Mikula of Chetek, Alan (Dorothy) Mikula of Lima MT, Robyn (Rick) Lee of New Auburn and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides.

Rod was a good man, respected and loved by his family and community.  Blessed be his memory.

Funeral service for Rod will be Sunday, August 27 at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek with Pastor Walter Olsen officiating.  A visitation for family and friends will be held from Noon until the time of the service.  Interment will follow at Our Saviors Cemetery.  Please join the family for a luncheon and continued fellowship in the church hall.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to Luther Park in Chetek or www.CARE.org in Rodney’s memory would be appreciated.

The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
