Reverend Sherman F. Iverson, 83 of Chetek peacefully passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Atrium Post Acute Care Center in Chetek.  He was born August 24, 1933 in Rosholt, Wisconsin the son of Seymour and Margaret (Hanson) Iverson.

Sherman was born and grew up in Rosholt, Wisconsin before joining the United States Army in 1952.  He served 3 years in the military before being honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1955.  Sherman married Evelyn Marie Loberg November 15, 1953 at Northland Lutheran Church in Iola, Wisconsin, together they raised four children.  Sherman received his bachelor’s degree after attending UW-Stevens Point & Luther Seminary in St. Paul.  Sherman was ordained at Northland Lutheran Church in 1963.  The first parish he served was in Hazard, Nebraska.  He started 2 mission churches, one in Omaha, NE the other in Prescott, WI.  He also served Bethel/Dovre Lutheran Churches, Grace Lutheran in Tomahawk, Our Saviors Lutheran in Eau Claire, served as Chaplain at Luther Hospital and served as interim Pastor at several churches after his retirement in 1994.  Sherman enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and pinochle, watching the Brewers and Vikings, camping, deer hunting, traveling, any water activities including fishing for muskies, skiing and ski jumping, cheering on the athletes of various congregations he served and downhill skiing.  He was known for his strong handshake and corny jokes.

Sherman is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years; Evelyn, children; Lori (Howard) Moe of Chetek, Lynn (Steve) Jenkins of River Falls, WI, David (Carolyn) Iverson of Prescott, WI, Kara (Mark) Rogers of Cottage Grove, MN, 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; Amy (Brian) Adams and Mari, Nick (Amy) Jenkins and Finn, Kristin Crackel and Brooklynn, Drew and Chase, Jessica Jenkins, Caryn Moe (Chad Bruley) and Lauren, Leah (Marc) Konopacki and Jillian, Matthew (Marissa) Iverson, Sarah (Jordan) Grabow, Jacob Rogers, Grace Rogers, Luke Rogers.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law; Mary Ellen Iverson, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother; Vernon.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 31 at Chetek Lutheran Church with Pastor Guy Redfield officiating.  Visitation on Sunday, July 30 from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home and again one hour prior to the service at church on Monday.  Interment is scheduled for 2:30 P.M. at Northern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors accorded.  His 11 grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.   In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to www.militaryheroesfoundation.org.   Please view and sign the online guestbook at www.burnhamours.com.
