Joan Luer Obituary

JOAN ELAINE LUER

December 31, 1937 – April 11, 2019

Joan Elaine (Busacker) Luer, 81, of Chetek Wisconsin, joined her husband Frederick Sears Luer, in heaven, on April 11, 2019.

Joan was born in Long Prairie Minnesota in 1937.  She graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1955, and married Frederick S Luer in 1958. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Texas, and in 1959, were in Europe while Frederick was in the armed service.  Together, they raised their 3 daughters in Minneapolis and later, Savage Minnesota.  During summer weekends, Joan would load up the kids and head to the races with her race car driving husband Fred.  She could sometimes be found in the kitchen cutting replacement gaskets for the Midget car out of a pattern she had traced onto newspaper or a brown grocery sack!  Joan made it her priority to be a stay at home mother until the children had all moved from home.   She was a gifted seamstress and hair stylist, her daughters often sporting an interesting fashion or hair style.  She enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, visiting with her friends and neighbors, cooking, baking and adopting dogs.  She was always organized and well put together, having her hair done at the local beauty parlor on a regular basis, including just 2 days prior to her passing.

Joan was in her glory during all of her and Fred’s travels around the country.  She especially enjoyed visiting their friends in Oklahoma and Louisiana during Mardi Gras.  They took their annual trek down south for several years and even moved back down to Texas for a few years before moving back up to Savage.  Rather than embracing being an empty nester, Joan started her second career and went to Tarrant County Junior College in Texas to obtain a certificate as a medication assistant in 1985.  She was very proud of this accomplishment and worked many years with elderly people both in Texas and Minnesota.  Fred and Joan would travel between their homes in Chetek and Savage for several years and when Fred died, Joan made Chetek her full-time residence.

Joan is survived by her 3 daughters, several grand-children(spouses) and great-grand-children, nieces, nephews, inlaws and outlaws, and many other relatives and good friends.  The family would be remiss to not mention her dearest friends; Chuck and Jean Romanowski who were instrumental in enabling her to stay at her home in Chetek as she wished.  She is preceded by her parents, her husband, her brother, several in-laws and other relatives and friends.

Service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 2p, at Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Joan will be interred alongside her husband at Lakeview Cemetery in Chetek.  Following the burial the family invites their guests to join them at The Brass Rail Saloon in Chetek for light refreshments and to share stories and memories of Joan.

In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts the family prefers memorials to organization of donors choice.
