My heart, absolutely, sank with sadness when I heard Mrs. Stensby had passed away (she was my 4th grade teacher in 1969-70)! I had written to her a few Christmas' ago telling her how she was one of those teachers who stood out in my life as one who had made such an impression that has stayed with me throughout my life. I always loved when she would read stories to us in the afternoons (Pippi Longstockings), when she took us to Fawnderosa for a spring trip and her wonderful teaching style! I was not expecting her to remember me when I wrote her, given all her students throughout the years, but she wrote back to me and said, "She did!" What a dear lady who I loved and respected so much and will, fondly, remember my entire life.

Vivian is my late grandmother, Verna Swanson Rimpila's first cousin. My great grandmother was Christina Thompson. My grandmother enjoyed coming to Chetek and visiting with Vivian and all her sisters and brothers over the years. My grandmother passed away in 2000. She was a lovely lady.

I was in Mrs. Stensby's fourth grade class in 1971-72. At a difficult time in my family life, she was a source of stability and calm. She had a wonderful sense of humor and fun. She helped me develop self-confidence, but also gave me her example of humility.
For years after I was her student, she and her beloved Myron remained important influences in my life. I will never forget them. Thank you, Vivian. I love you. Rest in peace,

I just saw today, the obituary for Vivian. Sorry I didn't know sooner to attend at least the visitation. She was my 8th grade teacher at Plainview School near Dallas and was my very favorite grade school teacher. Her twin sisters were graduating that same year. She was the BEST and brought out the best in her students as well. My sister and I met with her for lunch in Cameron a few years ago and had a special day. She was a great lady.
