Maurine Stella (Redd) McFarlane

May 4, 1923 ~ October 9, 2016 (age 93) 93 Years Old


Maurine Stella McFarlane, age 93 passed away October 9, 2016 at Oakwood Villa in Altoona.  She was born in Cumming, Georgia May 4, 1923 to the late Gladys (Tallant) and Orbie Redd.

Maurine graduated at the age of 16 from Cumming High School in Georgia.  She worked as a telephone operator at Southern Bell in Atlanta, where she made $25.00 a week.  She also worked as a dispatcher for the Atlanta Police Department.  Joe, her husband was stationed in Atlanta in 1943 and they dated for 3 months prior to Joe’s deployment oversees during WWII.  They wrote to each other back and forth for 2 years.

 November 1945 Joe was discharged from the Army Air Force and returned to Atlanta and asked Maurine’s mother (father was deceased) for her hand in marriage.  Joe and Maurine were married in New Auburn, December 26, 1945.  They spent some time in Minneapolis, and then moved back to New Auburn where they raised 9 children on a dairy farm.  Maurine and Joe retired in 1979 and moved to Chetek.   They traveled by motorhome to Yuma, Arizona and Winterhaven, California.   Joe passed away October 2002.  In 2005 Maurine moved to Eau Claire to be closer to her daughter Jolene.  Maurine was a member of Community of Christ Church, had a strong faith in God and loved visits from her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and four legged fur-babies.  She also enjoyed cheering on the Packers and Brewers, sewing, gardening, playing cards, BINGO and was an excellent baker and all around homemaker. 

Maurine is survived by her children; Barry McFarlane of Downey, CA, Gail Castanon of Oceanside, CA, Sharon (Jim) Ryan of Olympia, WA, Miles (Aggie) McFarlane of Berthoud, CO, Curtis (DeeAnn) McFarlane of Wildomar, CA, Dwight McFarlane of Kennewick, WA, Erwin (Brandi) McFarlane of Corydon, IN, Patrick (Kyle) McFarlane of New Salisbury, IN, Jolene (Doug) Pichler of Eau Claire, WI, 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and another on the way.  She is also survived by twin sisters; Ruth (the late Bob) Strauss of Longboat Key, FL, Ruby (Jimmy) Eheman of Griffin, GA and sister-in-law and good friend Alvira “Vi” Jensen of Chetek, WI.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, granddaughter Angela Zink, daughter-in-law Blondine McFarlane and son-in-law Hank Kimbrue.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home Thursday, October 13 with Pastor Greg Harm officiating.  Family and friends may gather from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.  Maurine will be laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery in Chetek beside her husband at a later date.
